Digger graves destroyed in Gaza conflict
Published 4 days, 1 hour ago
Description
The graves of 146 Australian World War I and II soldiers in Gaza have been destroyed by Israeli military action during battles with Hamas. The family of Geelong digger Alfred Cork, killed in Palestine in 1917, is demanding an apology from Israel and wants the two Commonwealth cemeteries rebuilt. The Albanese government acknowledges the destruction has caused anguish but says restoration is currently impossible given Gaza's humanitarian crisis.
