MPD internal investigations rarely lead to discipline
Published 5 days, 15 hours ago
Description
The Madison Police Department’s internal affairs unit has concluded more than a hundred investigations since the start of this year. Just two of them led to disciplinary action…the only cases the unit acknowledges publicly.
Bill Lueders, a Madison-based journalist and president of the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council, discovered the disparity via open records request. He told our News Producer Faye Parks this afternoon that his request just scratches the surface – and local media and concerned residents need to step in to fill the information gaps.
