Supernatural: I'm No Angel (9x03) | Recap & Lore

Season 9 Episode 3 Published 6 months, 2 weeks ago
Description

Supernatural Season 9, Episode 3, I’m No Angel recap 🥪 Human Cas learns the hard way that being human means eating, peeing, bleeding, and trusting the wrong person, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

Cas is living at a homeless shelter, picking up trash, and finding out his body never stops making demands. Meanwhile, a slick new angel named Bartholomew is rallying Heaven’s refugees to hunt Cas down, and they don’t care how many vessels they go through. The boys race to find him first, with a little secret help from Ezekiel.

Episode Highlights:

  • Two priests, a shelter handyman named Cas, and a cut to a very bloody close-up
  • “Do you ever get tired of urinating?” Human Cas has complaints, and Berly feels them in her bones
  • Ezekiel’s blue-eyed swaps, with the camera panning behind Dean every time
  • Bartholomew (not Bart) and televangelist Reverend Buddy Boyle hold a vessel recruiting drive, with blood splooge #74
  • A creepy pharmacist angel, Cas lifting his shirt at a tattoo shop, and a reaper who’s a creeper
  • April offers Cas a PB&J, and then a whole lot more
  • “I hope more of this” (Berly was kicking her feet)
  • Misha Collins gives the only reaction humanly possible when you’re stabbed while tied to a chair
  • Cas discovers the bunker’s water pressure, and Dean asks about protection: “I had my angel blade”
  • Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming make sure there’s questionable sex, and one-time director Kevin Hooks makes some great shot choices

LA loved human Cas: he’s funny, and he gets laid. Berly is excited the writers can finally put Cas in situations he can’t white-light his way out of. She’s also loving Jared Padalecki’s switches between Sam and Ezekiel, after Sam got on her nerves last season. The gore: the priests and the blood splooge, with chunks of something sticking to the wall. And Berly has noticed a theme: nobody gets to give consent this season. Plus, an ending that’ll have you yelling at Dean.

In the lore segment, Berly answers the question everyone’s asking after this episode: how do you get an angel in the sack? Her 10-step guide to wooing your guardian angel, adapted (with liberties) from Watkins Magazine’s 49 ways to connect, covers setting clear intentions, sliding into their dreams, and asking, because angels respect free will (usually). There’s also a love language of feathers and coincidences, an altar with lapis lazuli and orange essential oil (for a being with no nose), a heartfelt love letter (don’t start with “hey”), and full commitment. No double penetration, though. You’ll explode.

“There’s more to humanity than survival. You look for purpose, and you must not be defeated by anger or despair. Or hedonism, for that matter.” – Castiel
