Peru

In Peru, with more than 60% of the presidential electoral vote counted from Sunday, Keiko Fujimori, daughter of dictator Alberto Fujimori, remains the leading candidate, while far-right contender Rafael López Aliaga and former foreign minister Jorge Nieto of a center-left tendency are virtually tied for second place. The process is moving slowly amid significant delays, allegations of fraud, and calls for the resignation of the electoral authorities following an organizational chaos.

This Tuesday, Pope Leo XIV continues his African tour in Algeria after meeting yesterday in Algiers with top authorities and Christian communities, delivering a strong message of peace and inter-religious dialogue. The 10-day visit will continue through Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea, with an agenda aimed at consolidating Africa as a key axis of Catholicism and promoting dialogue with Islam, a tour even marked by tensions with President Donald Trump, who has criticized the Pope and received a firm response from the pontiff. 

Iran-United States

And today, the Strait of Hormuz remains in a situation of partial blockade with high tension. The United States maintains that the blockade it initiated seeks to prevent traffic linked to Iran and ensure maritime security following failed negotiations. Iran denounces the blockade as piracy and a violation of international law, warning it could respond militarily by targeting U.S. interests or allies in the region. And that's the world news.
