Qantas cuts flights as fuel costs soar
Published 1 week, 2 days ago
Description
Qantas and Jetstar are cancelling domestic flights and suspending multiple routes as fuel costs surge by $800 million since February due to Middle East conflict impacts. The national carrier is cutting 5% of domestic services, including routes to Mount Gambier, Hamilton Island, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast and Busselton, with warnings that airfares will increase as reduced capacity drives up prices. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has travelled to Brunei and Malaysia to secure Australia's fuel supplies through diplomatic talks with key diesel and urea suppliers.
