Beautiful Late September Beach Day Forecast for New York Area with Sunny Skies and Two Foot Surf
Published 1 week, 4 days ago
Description
Good morning! Here's your Sunday surf zone forecast for the New York area brought to you by the National Weather Service.
Across all our beaches today, we're looking at a beautiful late September day with consistent conditions from Brooklyn all the way out to the East End. Rip current risk is low across the board, though as always, life threatening rip currents are possible near structures like groins, jetties, and piers, so keep that in mind if you're heading out.
Surf heights will be modest at around two feet, perfect for a relaxed beach day without any thunderstorm potential to worry about. You'll want to bring along some sun protection though—we've got moderate UV index conditions expected throughout the day.
Weather-wise, we're starting out mostly cloudy to partly sunny depending on which beach you visit, but the clouds will clear out and give way to sunny skies by midday. Temperatures will reach the upper to mid seventies, and winds will be light, generally running southeast to south around five miles per hour before rotating southwest this afternoon. That's about as perfect as it gets for late September.
Water temperatures are running in the upper sixties to lower seventies, so a rash guard or thin wetsuit might be a good idea if you're sensitive to cooler water.
Sunrise is between six forty-one and six forty-eight depending on your location, with sunset coming around six thirty-seven to six forty-five. High tides will occur around midday across all zones, so plan your activities accordingly.
This is a fantastic day to get outside and enjoy the beach. Stay safe, swim near a lifeguard, and have a great Sunday!
