How to Live With Grief Without Letting It Take Your Life with Sylvia Wolfer

Season 1 Episode 112 Published 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Description

Angela interviews grief educator Sylvia Wolfer, who lost her father to a heart attack at age seven, her younger brother in a road accident when she was 17, and her older brother in a car crash just before lockdown. Sylvia shares how years of unprocessed grief made her avoid everyday life and feel ambushed by triggers, leading to nervous system exhaustion, irritability, sleep and appetite disruption, and social withdrawal. She explains how neuroscience helped validate her experience and describes the brain’s time-space-connection map, noting that time and place disappear after loss while connection can remain. Sylvia offers grounded practices: tend to the body with real food, hydration, bedtime routines, and morning daylight; choose supportive people; use mindful movement and sensory mindfulness when meditation is hard; build emotional literacy by labeling emotions; and “schedule grief” to create agency.
