Anthony Albanese is calling for a resumption of peace talks between the US and Iran after the two countries failed to reach a deal over the weekend.

The two week ceasefire in the Middle East remains shaky, with President Donald Trump ordering a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

A small number of ships had been moving through the key shipping route since the ceasefire was announced, but maritime data shows all traffic through the waterway has now stopped.

The Prime Minister says the US has not asked Australia for help with the blockage, and has reiterated calls for de-escalation.

The Queensland Government is pushing to criminalise the creation of sexually explicit AI 'deepfakes.'

It's currently illegal to distribute non consensual AI images, but it's not against the law to generate them.

Under proposed new rules that would change, and offenders could face up to three years in jail.

And one of Europe's most controversial leaders has been ousted after 16 years in power.
