The US military is gearing up for a blockade of Iranian ports.

It says it'll stop traffic through the ports but won't prevent vessels going through the Strait of Hormuz from non Iranian ports.

It comes after US President Donald Trump vowed to blockade the Iranian-controlled shipping route, with Iran warning it'll retaliate against any approaching military vessels.

And conflict in the Middle East continues to disrupt global oil supply, the prime minister's defending a federal government ad campaign encouraging Australians to save fuel.

The federal opposition has labelled the $20 million campaign a 'lecture' and 'taxpayer funded political propaganda'.

But Anthony Albanese says it's an attempt to communicate directly with Australians.

Meanwhile, Victoria's confirmed its free public transport response to the fuel crisis will end next month.

And Irish golfing star Rory McIlroy has become the fourth man in history to win back-to-back Masters titles at the Augusta course in the US.

The Masters is the world's most prestigious title, and the last man to claim consecutive majors at Augusta was Tiger Woods in 2002.
