California Coast Surf Forecast Sunday Monday April 12 Rip Current Warnings Ventura LA County Beaches

Published 1 week, 4 days ago
Description
Good morning! Here's your surf zone forecast for Sunday, April 12th through Monday.

Starting down south along the Santa Barbara Central Coast and San Luis Obispo County beaches, we're looking at some serious swell today with waves building to six to nine feet. That's the biggest action in the forecast zone. Monday that energy pulls back a bit to four to seven feet, but still plenty respectable. Water temps are chilly though, ranging from fifty-two to fifty-four degrees, so wetsuit weather for sure.

Moving up the coast to the Santa Barbara County beaches, conditions are much more mellow. Today you're looking at one to three foot waves with just low rip current risk. Temperatures are a bit warmer, sitting in the low sixties. By Monday the swell picks up to two to four feet with moderate rip current risk developing, so keep an eye on that.

Over in Ventura County, we've got moderate rip current risk today with two to four foot surf and water temps between sixty-three and sixty-five degrees. Here's where things get interesting though because Monday sees a significant shift. High rip current risk moves in with three to five foot waves, so swimmers and waders need to be extra cautious. If you do venture out, know how to identify and escape a rip current by swimming parallel to shore.

The Malibu Coast and LA County beaches are in a similar boat Monday-wise. Today brings moderate rip current risk with two to four foot waves on west-facing beaches and three to five on south-facing breaks. There's also a slight chance of thunderstorms, so keep one eye on the sky. Water sits around sixty degrees. Come Monday, high rip current risk takes hold with three to five foot surf and no thunderstorm threat.

The key takeaway here is that rip current risk is escalating significantly heading into Monday across most of LA and Ventura County beaches. All areas will see mixed west and south swell conditions today, with that pattern continuing into Monday. Whether you're planning a beach day or heading out to catch some waves, respect the rip currents and stay safe out there.
