Back to EpisodesTrump just pushed the world to the brink of global disaster
Description
Donald Trump spent the day pushing the world to the brink, threatening the destruction of an entire civilization, then backing down at the last minute after forcing millions of people to spend the day wondering whether mass death was hours away. This was not strength. It was chaos, cruelty, and recklessness on a global scale.
Trump posted from the White House that a whole civilization could die that night, sending shockwaves around the world. Iran called on young people to form human chains around power plants, and its president said 14 million citizens had volunteered to defend the country. Families prepared for the possibility of mass death after Trump threatened civilian infrastructure. Pope Leo XIV called the threats truly unacceptable, France warned that targeting civilian infrastructure violates international law, and Britain refused to let its bases be used for such strikes. Republican leaders in Washington did not even return requests for comment.
Trump eventually backed down and announced a two-week ceasefire, brokered by the prime minister of Pakistan, while both sides claimed victory. The United States lost 13 service members, Iran lost nearly 2,000 people, and Trump left Iran stronger than before while embarrassing America again. JD Vance spent the same day in Budapest campaigning for Viktor Orban. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Alex Jones both called for the 25th Amendment. Trump also turned his attention back to the press, accusing CNN of fraud and suggesting journalists could be investigated for reporting the news. This is the normalization of instability, a pattern of manufactured crisis, public exhaustion, authoritarian tactics, and the deliberate erosion of democratic norms.
