Shutdown Looming: Budget Office Orders Agencies to Plan Firings

Episode 1962 Published 7 months, 1 week ago
Description

The White House is escalating the budget standoff that could trigger a government shutdown. In a late-night memo, the Budget Office told agencies to prepare for mass firings if Congress does not pass a spending bill by next week. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, in a post on X, told OMB Director Russell Vought to “get lost,” while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the memo “an attempt at intimidation.” President Donald Trump and Republicans want a seven-week extension with no changes, while Democrats push for health care and Medicare priorities.
