Why Kentucky Rejected the 13th Amendment in 1865

Description
On Feb. 24, 1865, Kentucky’s General Assembly voted against ratifying the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery in the United States. Although the state remained in the Union during the Civil War, slavery continued there until the amendment became law later that year. Kentucky did not officially ratify the amendment until 1976.
