California Surf Forecast Friday Saturday April 10-11 High Rip Currents Malibu LA Ventura Santa Barbara

Published 1 week, 6 days ago
Description
Good morning, this is your surf zone forecast for Friday, April 10th through Saturday, April 11th.

Starting with the Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches, we're looking at some solid conditions with surf heights of three to five feet today and tomorrow. Water temps are ranging from sixty to sixty-six degrees, so you'll want to think about a light wetsuit or rash guard. The swell is coming from a mix of south and west directions, which should provide some nice variety in the lineup. However, here's the thing you need to know: there's a HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK in effect for both days. Life-threatening rip currents are likely, so if you're heading out, make sure you know how to escape a rip by swimming parallel to shore. High tide this morning hits at four thirty-two AM, with the next high coming at eight thirty-one PM.

Moving down to Ventura County Beaches, conditions are slightly calmer with surf in the two to four foot range, though you could see some local sets reaching five feet. Water is a bit warmer here at sixty-three to sixty-six degrees. The rip current risk is moderate, meaning life-threatening rip currents are possible rather than likely, so take precautions but the danger level is a notch lower. Saturday looks similar with the same moderate risk and mixed swell direction.

Now, if you're planning to head further south to Santa Barbara County, today actually looks pretty mellow. The Southwestern and Southeastern coasts are seeing just one to three foot surf with a LOW rip current risk today. Water temps are the warmest we've seen so far at sixty-seven to sixty-nine degrees, so conditions are quite pleasant for Friday. However, don't get too comfortable because Saturday brings a change. Swell bumps up to two to four feet and that rip current risk increases to moderate as a south swell mixes in with the west swell.

Finally, for those heading up to San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Central Coast Beaches, we're back to some bigger water with three to five foot surf today and potentially three to six feet tomorrow. This area is noticeably colder at fifty-one to fifty-three degrees, so definitely bring a proper wetsuit. There's a slight chance of thunderstorms today, so keep an eye on the sky before you paddle out. The swell is a mix of west and south components, and Saturday should offer even better wave potential as that south swell gets stronger.

Bottom line: rip currents are the story of the day along most of the coast, so respect the water and always swim near lifeguard towers. Have a great session.
