Victorian teachers threaten new strike over pay dispute
Published 2 weeks ago
Description
Victorian teachers are threatening strike action at the start of term two after rejecting the Premier's offer of a 17 per cent pay rise over four years. The Australian Education Union is demanding a 35 per cent increase, citing cost of living pressures and claiming Victorian teachers are the lowest paid in the country. The threatened action follows a major strike weeks earlier that closed around 500 public schools and saw 35,000 teachers and support staff march through Melbourne.
