Concern Over Proposed N85 Crash Barriers

Concern Over Proposed N85 Crash Barriers

Published 2 weeks, 1 day ago
Description
A controversial proposal for the N85 near Kilnamona has sparked quite a reaction locally. Plans to install crash barriers are being questioned, with some arguing they don’t go far enough to fix what’s seen as a dangerous road. One of those raising concerns is Kilnamona Native Nicholas Rynne, Nicholas joined Alan Morrissey on Wednesdays Morning Focus. Clare Fm reached out to the council for a statement on this issue: “Clare County Council, in conjunction with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, is proposing to install a vehicle restraint system (VRS) to replace the existing plastic barriers and other barriers at a number of locations on the N85 at Kilnamona. In addition, the Council is looking to develop the N85 Kilnamona realignment scheme which would ultimately create a safer road network in this location. However, as the road realignment scheme will take a number of years to deliver, at this time it is prudent to provide a safer vehicle restraint system for the benefit of all motorists.” Image © New crash barrier by middelveld from Getty Images Signature via Canva
