Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

This is a special Father’s Day show, featuring rapidly rotating records about fathers, papas, daddies and grampas, but we’ll also have our regular “This Week in Recording History” segment.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Father’s

Thank Your Father – Rudy Marlow AHO / Jack Teagarden, scat v.
The Tree That Father Planted For Me – George Olsen and His Music / Joe Morrison, v
Father’s Got His Glasses On – Cab Calloway ah Cotton Club Orch. / Cab Calloway, v.
Take A Little Tip From Father – Billy Murray

Segment 2: Papas

Mama Loves Papa – Isham Jones AHO
Poor Papa – Goofus Five (California Ramblers)
Sweet Little Papa – Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five

Segment 3: Daddies
Another synonym for father is daddy, which, in vintage record titles can have somewhat less than wholesome, family oriented connotations. I had to dig a little, but I managed to find a few G rated songs about daddies.

When I Wore My Daddy’s Brown Derby – Eddie Kireby Orch.
Daddy And Home – Jimmie Rodgers
My Daddy’s Dream-Time Lullaby – Coon-Sanders Original Nighthawk Orch

Segment 4: Grandpa
We don’t want to leave grandpa out of this special Father’s Day edition of the show.

Granddad’s Flannelette Nightshirt – George Formby
Grandpa’s Spells – Charles Creath’s Jazz-O-Maniacs
Grandfather’s Clock – Harold Williams & BBC Male Chorus / Ernest Lush, Piano

Segment 5: This Week in Recording History

I’m Gonna Put You In Your Place (And Your Place Is In My Arms) – Fats Waller and His Rhythm / Fats Waller, v. (June 9, 1937)
Nevertheless I’m In Love With You – Ruth Etting
(June 9, 1931)
Baby Dear – Bennie Moten’s Kansas City Orchestra
(June 11, 1927)
High Hat – Constance Mering & Muriel Polllock, Duo Piano
(June 12, 1928)
