A Prayer for When It’s Hard to Trust Change

Loving God,

Sometimes we can see that things are changing—

and still find it hard to believe.

Not because we don’t want it.

But because we’ve been hurt before.

Because we’ve hoped before.

And things didn’t turn out the way we thought they would.

And so we become careful.

Careful with what we expect.

Careful with what we allow ourselves to trust.

Help us to recognize what is already happening.

Give us the courage

to remain present

to what is already happening.

And as we do,

help us to trust it.

Amen.
