Published 1 week ago
Description
Let’s dive into something that sounds like science fiction but is very much grounded in today’s reality: supercomputers. We’re talking about machines that can perform quintillions of calculations per second, and believe it or not, they’re reshaping how we tackle some of the world’s toughest problems. Just recently, a monumental decision was made regarding funding for what is now considered the most powerful supercomputer created to date—El Capitan, located at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California. As of June 2025, El Capitan reached an astonishing 1.742 exaFLOPS according to LINPACK benchmarks, which is a fancy way of saying it can perform incredible computations at lightning speed.
