Description
Naoimh welcomes Fr Shane Sullivan, parish priest of Carna in Connemara and founder of the Apostolic Society of the Most Holy Trinity, for a warm Easter Saturday conversation. Fr. Shane, a Chicago-born priest of Irish-American heritage whose father comes from the very parish he now serves, describes being called to the priesthood at eighteen through the example of a joyful local priest. He traces his journey through seminary and his decision to come to Ireland in 2008 as a missionary priest, ordained in 2012.
He and Naoimh discuss the Easter Vigil as the summit of the Church’s year, the dawn Mass he celebrates at a holy well associated with St. Kieran of Clonmacnoise, and his religious community’s daily practice of praying St. Patrick’s Breastplate as their first act each morning, which he chose as his closing song. A warm digression on the Irish language and Naoimh’s own rediscovery of it through faith rounds off the programme.
