Gospel Tidings – Good Friday: St. John’s Passion – Mary Hooton and Fr Eamonn

Published 1 month ago
Description

Fr. Eamonn and Mary lead a solemn Good Friday hour journeying through the full Passion according to St. John in three sections, opened and interspersed with the Reproaches sung by the choir of St. Mary Magdalene, Toronto. Between readings, Fr. Eamonn and Mary reflect on the drama unfolding in the Gospel: Peter’s denial as a mirror of our own fear-driven failures; Pilate’s uncomfortable proximity to Truth itself when he asks Quid est veritas?; the mob choosing Barabbas; and the Jewish leaders’ willingness to break their own law by declaring allegiance to Caesar in order to secure the crucifixion. The hour closes with Isaiah 53 read as prophecy fulfilled and an invitation to venerate the cross — even the small cross of a rosary beads — at the three o’clock hour.
