Gospel Tidings – Holy Saturday: The Seven Sorrows of Our Lady – Mary Hooton and Fr Eamonn

Published 1 month ago
Description

Fr. Eamonn McCarthy and Mary Hooton mark Holy Saturday with a quiet and prayerful reflection on all seven sorrows of Our Lady, reading the scripture passages for each one in turn. From Simeon’s prophecy at the presentation, through the loss of the child Jesus in the Temple, the meeting on the way to Calvary, the crucifixion, the piercing of his side, and the burial in the tomb, they reflect on Mary’s fidelity as Queen of Martyrs and what it means to wait on Holy Saturday with hope in the resurrection. A special meditation on the fourth sorrow draws on the scene in The Passion of the Christ where Jesus, having fallen, looks at his mother and says: “See, I make all things new.”
