Description
Margaret joins us from the Lee Valley in County Cork with a programme full of practical spring gardening. She reflects on the joy of growing your own food and the satisfaction of nearly a full year’s vegetables from a small plot, and encourages even the most time-pressed listeners to start with a few herbs in a window box, a trough of strawberries or a container of blueberries. She covers growing cherry tomatoes on the patio, positioning apple trees away from the early morning sun to protect the blossom from late frosts, and the beautiful Aquilegia, or Granny’s Bonnet, as her favourite Easter flower. The programme closes with a warm reflection on the quiet of Good Friday and Holy Saturday as a time to be in the garden and in the tomb with Jesus, and a meditation on the depth of his suffering.
