Peace of Mind

Season 2025 Episode 287 Published 1 month ago
Description

John and Eoin take on the topic of resilience in this Holy Week episode. They open with Kipling’s poem If as a definition of what resilience looks like in practice, and explore how the ability to bounce back is not something you are born with but something you develop by degrees, through the small trials of daily life and the larger ones God permits. They draw on Lent as a training ground for resilience, the story of David and Goliath as a biblical example of God preparing someone through small battles for a larger one, and the book Love, Medicine and Miracles on how illness can draw out unexpected strength. The conversation is warm and practical throughout, and closes with a re-reading of the Kipling poem alongside a summary of the habits that build resilience: easy temperament, a sense of humour, a sense of mission, empathy and spirituality.
