Description
Biblical Talks Encouraging Word for the Week, I am Rachel Tolliver,
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” (1 Thess. 5:11)
Now I know this might sound strange in church, but do anybody remember that old show Cheers? You know the one—where everybody knew your name, and folks gathered not just to drink, but to belong. That bar wasn’t just about alcohol—it was about atmosphere. It was about encouragement. It was about community. They even had a name for it: Happy Hour.
But let me tell you something, church—what the world tries to imitate, God originated! Happy hour might offer you a discount on drinks, but the Holy Ghost offers you a full-price blessing! The bar might give you a moment of relief, but the Body of Christ gives you eternal joy!
See, people don’t go to bars just for liquor—they go for laughter. They go for connection. They go because they’re not getting joy at home, not getting affirmation at work, so they go where they feel seen. But Paul says the church ought to be that place! “Comfort yourselves together, and edify one another…”
That’s the real happy hour! That’s the holy gathering! That’s the Spirit-filled space where burdens get lifted and souls get built!
So let the church be the place where joy flows freely, where encouragement is on tap, and where every soul walks in saying, “I’m glad I came.” Let the sanctuary be the spot where the thirsty get filled—not with spirits from a bottle, but with the Spirit of the Living God!
