Yemen: The War the World Chose to Forget

Published 1 week, 1 day ago
Description
Yemen—a name most of us hear infrequently, yet behind it lies one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time. Often called the "forgotten war," the conflict in Yemen has waged on since 2014, with deep historical roots and a tangled mix of local and international interests.
To understand why this war began, we need to wind the clock back to 2014. That’s when the Houthi movement, a group with roots in northern Yemen, seized control of the capital city, Sana'a. They declared themselves the new government, a bold move that led to a military intervention in 2015. A coalition led by Saudi Arabia stepped in to restore the internationally recognized government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. From that moment on, the situation has spiraled into chaos.
