Danell Cross and Melody McCurtis are a mother-daughter duo at the helm of a Milwaukee community organization called Metcalfe Park Community Bridges, and recipients of the 2026 MLK Jr. Heritage Award presented at the WI State Capitol in January. Melody McCurtis joins Jan Miyasaki for a conversation about the decades-long decline of Metcalfe Park neighborhood due to systemic disinvestment, and how their organization supports Metcalfe Park residents by providing resources such as housing and community fridges as well as by policy advocacy at the city and state levels.
