We welcome Dr. John Ward. Coach Ward is one of the preeminent experts on the Single Wing offense in the world.

He has been running the offense since his high school days in the 1960s. He has influenced coaches across the country through clinic talks he has delivered since the 1990s at the SW Symposium and the National SW Conclave.

This is part one of our two-part conversation. In this episode, we discuss his long and storied career as well as his SW roots.

We talk about the history of Pop Warner's legendary offense, which remains an effective mode of attack over 100 years after its beginnings at the Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania.

Besides sharing some stories, we also discuss the origin of the Gap-Down-Backer blocking scheme, combination blocks, and the difference between the SW and the Notre Dame Box.
