What to Do When Your Spirits Sink

Description
This video, titled "What to Do When Your Spirits Sink," is a reflection by Pastor John Piper on how Christians can manage moments of discouragement and spiritual lack of joy. Drawing on Psalm 40:1-3, Piper explains that "pit" seasons (emotional or spiritual difficulties) are a normal and recurring part of the believer's life, and he proposes six stages for navigating these situations:

  1.  The King's Pit (13:31-16:51): Admitting that you are in a state of despair, helplessness, or spiritual dryness.
  2. The King's Cry (16:55-22:06): Recognizing the need for help and genuinely crying out to God as our primary source of refuge.
  3. The King's Patience (22:12-27:14): Learning to wait humbly on God, understanding that His timing rarely aligns with ours.
  4. The King's Rescue (27:18-29:46): Trusting that God is the one who ultimately pulls us out of the mire and places our feet on solid rock, giving us security.
  5. The King's Song (29:52-37:31): God puts a "new song" in our mouths, transforming our pain into praise and deep gratitude after our rescue.
  6. The King's Influence (37:34-40:59): The testimony of our perseverance and subsequent deliverance serves as a powerful evangelistic tool, enabling others to see God's work and place their trust in Him.
Piper concludes by emphasizing that the assurance of salvation does not depend on our fluctuating emotions, but on God's faithfulness (1:27-2:08), and encourages believers to fight for their joy in Jesus even in the midst of trials.
