San Antonio's Black History: A Home, A Church, A Hospital
Description
San Antonios Eastside history comes alive in a new graphic novel, A Home, A Church and a Hospital, funded by a $30k grant from the Texas Historical Commission. The project spotlights three landmarks: Charles Bellingers home, Greater Corinth Baptist Church, and Good Samaritan Hospital. Bellinger, a wealthy entrepreneur, used his influence to improve the Eastside during segregation. His home was sold to the church, and the hospital was built for Black veterans. Today, the hospital building serves as a veterans resource center. The graphic novel, featuring comic-style illustrations, will be available at every San Antonio public library branch.
