Perfect Beach Day Today in New York Area with Sunny Skies, Small Surf, and Mild Temperatures
Published 3 weeks, 3 days ago
Description
Good morning, this is your Sunday surf forecast for the New York area, brought to you by the National Weather Service. It's September 28th, and we've got some beautiful beach weather heading your way today.
Let's start with the conditions across all our zones. Rip current risk is low everywhere, which means you can get in the water without major concerns about dangerous currents. That said, always keep an eye out near groins, jetties, and piers where rip currents can still develop unexpectedly.
The surf is going to be small but fun, running around two feet across all zones. It's not going to be epic, but it's perfect for wading, swimming, and enjoying the water. Water temperatures are hovering in the upper 60s to lower 70s depending on where you are, so you might want a light wetsuit or be prepared for a bit of a chill.
Now here's the good news about the weather. Most zones are starting off mostly cloudy or partly sunny, but by midday everything clears out to sunny skies. Expect that cloud cover to burn off sometime between noon and 1 PM depending on your location. It's going to be a gorgeous afternoon out there.
Temperatures are climbing to the mid to upper 70s, with Brooklyn seeing the warmest conditions reaching the upper 70s. Winds are going to be very light, starting out of the southeast to east at around five miles per hour, then shifting to the southwest as we move through the afternoon. That's about as perfect as you can ask for.
UV index is moderate, so definitely get some sunscreen on before you head out. Sunrise is happening around 6:41 to 6:48 depending on how far east you are, and sunset comes around 6:37 to 6:45 PM. You've got a nice window of daylight to enjoy.
High tides are clustered right around midday, with most areas seeing their high tide between 12:04 PM and 12:39 PM. This is perfect timing if you're planning a beach day since you'll have ideal conditions during the warmest part of the day.
Finally, here's something to note, folks. This is the last forecast of the year from our office. So if you're planning to hit the beaches before we wrap up 2025, today is an absolutely fantastic day to do it. Calm conditions, sunny skies, mild temperatures, and safe water. You really can't ask for much better than that.
Get out there and enjoy it.
