Description
Supernatural Season 9, Episode 1, I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here recap 🌠 Sam is dying, Cas is human, and “superpowered dicks” are falling from the sky on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.
LA and Berly are back! After the Supernatural Music Extravaganza, LA recaps all of Season 8 in one go (Henry Westchester, anyone?). Then the hosts dive into the Season 9 premiere, where Dean puts out a prayer that every fallen angel on Earth can hear. Plus, Spotify shout-outs from Meg Myers, Haas5150, Carrie Rinda, Stranger Natural, Selena, and Dory, and a plea: it’s been a while since anyone left an Apple Podcasts review.
Episode Highlights:
- A hazy Impala ride that’s really happening inside Sam’s head, and a doctor who calls Dean “Mr. Daughtry”
- Dean’s prayer switches from puppy-eyed Cas plea to open invitation, and Jensen Ackles changes his entire face mid-sentence
- Jim Beaver’s Bobby pops up in Sam’s back seat with a very different opinion
- “I have the King of Hell in my trunk”
- Tahmoh Penikett’s Ezekiel arrives, and the hosts Google him immediately
- Human Cas discovers pain, and his two-finger mojo fizzles on a very unimpressed biker
- Hael built the Grand Canyon, and she has an aggressive way of offering a ride
- Cas strips down in a laundromat and has to choose between clean clothes and the vending machine
- Dean takes a beating so he can paint a sigil in his own blood
- Julian Richings’s Death makes a personal appearance, and the episode becomes a lesson in consent where nobody passes
It’s an interesting way to open the season: Sam can’t just be fine right away, so there’s an underlying deception that’s surely coming back to bite Dean. LA loved Ezekiel and seeing Julian Richings again. Berly loved Jensen’s prayer switch and the laundromat, and she’s excited (and worried) about human Cas. The gore is light, but it’s one of Dean’s bloodiest beatdowns ever, all along the hairline, for a good cause.
In the lore segment, LA covers Ezekiel, who in real life was a prophet, not an angel. He lived around 623 to 570 BC and was a priest exiled to Babylon after Jerusalem fell, and his name means “God strengthens.” He’s honored across Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and the Baháʼí Faith, and he’s best known for the Valley of Dry Bones. His vision of a closed gate hits a little different after Heaven’s doors just slammed shut. The hosts are still debating whether this Ezekiel is a good guy.
“I consider it to be quite the honor to be collecting the likes of Sam Winchester.” – Death
Your turn, hunters: Haas5150 asked, so now we’re asking you: angel, demon, or monster, which would you be? And is Ezekiel a good guy? Tell us in the Spotify comments, leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts (it’s how new hunters find us), or send us fan mail. Bonus points for fandom fun facts we missed.
