Catechesis – The Seven Church Pilgrimage: The House of Caiaphas, Pergamon and St. Philip Neri – Fr Peter George Flynn OFM

Published 1 month, 1 week ago
Description

Fr. Peter George Flynn continues his Holy Thursday series, arriving at the third station of Our Lord’s Passion: the house of Caiaphas. He traces the trial before the high priest, the false witnesses, the moment Christ declares himself, and the blows that followed, before fast-forwarding to show us the same Caiaphas utterly confounded by the bravery of Peter and John after the Resurrection. Along the way, Fr. Peter George introduces the tradition’s founder, the irrepressible St. Philip Neri, and reflects on what made him such a compelling guide for restless young men in Rome. He then turns to the Book of Revelation’s letter to the Church of Pergamon, and the strange figure of Balaam, a man of true prophetic gift who nonetheless became a stumbling block, drawing a pointed parallel with Caiaphas, who also spoke truer than he knew.
