Published 1 month ago
Description

Will Wade's Return to LSU
LSU leadership, led by President Wade Rousse, moved swiftly to re-hire Wade after firing Matt McMahon, who went 60-70 over four seasons in Baton Rouge.

  • Contract Details: Wade signed a 7-year, $30 million deal that runs through March 31, 2033.
  • Mission: Wade stated his goal is to "hang a banner" and win a national title, joking that if he fails, he’ll be the "first coach fired from the same school twice".
  • Roster Rebuild: With the transfer portal opening April 7, Wade expects significant "sticker shock" in his first year as he rebuilds the roster with an estimated budget of $12 million to $15 million.

NC State's Reaction
The departure has left NC State and Athletic Director Boo Corrigan reeling after Wade spent just one season in Raleigh.

  • Sense of Betrayal: Corrigan expressed shock, stating he felt "lied to" after Wade reportedly gave multiple assurances—including one as late as the Tuesday before his departure—that he intended to stay with the Wolfpack.
  • Buyout: LSU (or Wade) will pay a $4 million buyout to NC State for his departure.
  • New Leadership: NC State moved quickly to fill the vacancy, reportedly hiring former player and Tennessee assistant Justin Gainey as their next head coach.  AL.comAL.com +4

  • Kentucky Series: The Tigers secured a "must-win" series against Kentucky last weekend. After a 7-0 shutout win on Saturday, LSU staged a massive comeback on Sunday, March 29, rallying from a 7-0 deficit to win 17-10.
  • Upcoming Game: The Tigers conclude their homestand tonight, Tuesday, March 31, with a matchup against Southern University at Alex Box Stadium.
