Description
Margaret joins us on St. Patrick’s Day with a programme full of seasonal colour. She explores the botanical history of the shamrock, sharing the findings of two national surveys on which variety of trifolium Irish people actually associate with the name, and why clover in your lawn is worth leaving in flower for the bees. She then introduces bells of Ireland, the beautiful green annual native to Syria and Turkey that earns its Irish name purely from its colour. She also covers the star magnolia as a beautiful small tree for a sheltered spot, and gives important advice on protecting early-flowering plants from the damage of the morning sun after a frost. The programme closes with a reflection on St. Patrick’s Breastplate and a prayer for vocations.
