Description
Fr Peter George Flynn speaks with Fr Jim Doyle, a priest from the Diocese of Ferns who serves as chaplain to the Irish community in Paris at the historic Irish Cultural Centre (formerly the Irish College), which trained thousands of priests over four centuries. Fr. Jim traces his own unusual vocation story from civil engineering in Galway to aid work in Cambodia and Burundi, to seminary in Ars and now Paris, where he once found himself saying Mass for President Joe Biden. He paints a warm picture of the Irish community in Paris, describes how St Patrick’s Day is celebrated at the Centre, and offers a rich reflection on the links between St Patrick and France, the monastic Christianity Patrick brought to Ireland, and the Irish saints — above all St Columbanus — who repaid the debt by evangelising Europe in the centuries that followed.
