All Things Legion – The Church’s Winter – Mary Stenson

Published 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Description

Mary Stenson marks the week of St. Patrick’s Day with a wide-ranging programme. She shares a pointed reflection from Father John Hogan on what St. Patrick actually was: a Catholic missionary sent by the Pope, not simply a migrant, and on his theological legacy of Trinitarian orthodoxy. She then explores Frank Duff’s foreword to the Legion’s shorter breviary, explaining why the Divine Office is the ideal form of prayer and how its words, drawn from the Holy Spirit, allow us to simply rest in the arms of God.

Legionary Michael Walsh contributes a fascinating article on Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, believed to be the site of the first church ever dedicated to Our Lady, founded by St. James the Greater in AD 40 following an apparition while Mary was still living on earth. The programme closes with an excerpt from Frank Duff’s 1980 talk on faith and renewal, reminding us that the Church is not in a dying state but in winter, and that winter always gives way to spring.
