Catechesis – What Was St Joseph Really Like? – Fr Peter George Flynn OFM

Published 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Description

Fr Peter George Flynn is joined by Fr Mark Quinn from Tuam to mark the Solemnity of St. Joseph. Fr. Mark explains how he founded Men of St. Joseph in the Archdiocese of Tuam, a monthly gathering now drawing 45 to 55 men around themes of faith, formation and fraternity. They discuss whether Joseph was young or old, why the image of the older Joseph was adopted by early artists and what the case for a younger Joseph says about chastity and the strength of young men.

Fr. Mark then describes Joseph’s likely work as a builder and contractor rather than a workshop carpenter, the intriguing Roman city discovered near Nazareth where Joseph may have worked, and the two schools of thought on his reaction when he discovered Mary was pregnant. The episode closes with a guide to the courageous mysteries and how men in the west of Ireland can get involved with the group.
