Catechesis – Christ’s Body Taken From the Cross: The Sixth Sorrow of Our Lady – Fr Peter George Flynn OFM

Published 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Description

Fr. Peter George Flynn continues his Lenten series on the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady, turning to the Sixth Sorrow: the taking down of Christ from the Cross. Drawing on the poetry of Francis Thompson, the Roman virtue of pietas as illustrated in Virgil’s Aeneid, and the theology of the Immaculate Heart, Fr. Peter George reflects on what it truly means to honour those to whom we owe our existence and how Our Lady embodies this virtue in the most profound way, cradling the body of her God.

He also speaks about devotion to the Immaculate Heart, the Five First Saturdays, and the Militia Immaculatae, with an invitation to encounter Mary not as a distant figure of sorrow, but as a mother who bore the pain of our birth into grace.
