Take it personally 

means to feel hurt or offended by something, and believe it is directed at you — even if it may not be.

Example

1- At work, a manager gives general feedback to the team. But one employee feels upset, as if the comment was about them. They’ve taken it personally.

2- In conversations, people don’t always express themselves perfectly. Sometimes, what was meant as a simple comment can be understood in a much deeper, emotional way.
