Energy crisis slams US farmers

Energy crisis slams US farmers

Published 4 months, 1 week ago
Description
The price of No. 2 diesel has jumped from around $3.50 to $5.38 per gallon in recent months. This cost is unavoidable because tractors and farm machinery cannot quickly switch to other energy sources. Some farmers are switching from nitrogen-hungry crops (such as corn) to more fertilizer-efficient crops (such as soybeans or forages), although soybean prices are also being pressured by export restrictions to China.
