Prayer for a New Bishop

Almighty and ever-living God, in your faithfulness, grant to the Diocese of Colorado Springs a shepherd whose watchful care and kindly zeal will continue the good work of his predecessors.

In your love for us, give us a shepherd who will lead us in being Christ’s heart of mercy, voice of hope, and hands of justice. Let him who is chosen to be our shepherd strive to live more and more each day with holiness of life and heroic virtue so that he will lead your holy people in all truth.

Prepare him, we humbly pray, to fill our minds and hearts with the truth of the Gospel, the power of the sacraments, and the desire to actively work to build up your holy Church.

Loving God, grant our Holy Father Pope Leo wisdom in discernment as he chooses a new bishop for this local Church. By your divine providence, grant us a shepherd after the heart of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, whose benevolent care and zealousness will strengthen the people of God.

We ask this through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Diocese of Colorado Springs, and in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
