Good morning surfers and beach lovers, this is your New York surf zone forecast for Sunday, September twenty-eighth, twenty twenty-five.
We're looking at a beautiful late September day across the entire New York coast. All five beach zones are reporting identical rip current conditions, so whether you're hitting Coney Island, Rockaway, Jones Beach, or heading out east to the Hamptons, you're looking at a low rip current risk today. Of course, always remember that life-threatening rip currents can pop up near groins, jetties, and piers, so stay aware out there.
The surf is modest across the board with consistent two-foot waves expected from Brooklyn all the way out to the eastern Suffolk beaches. Don't expect any massive swells, but it's a solid, manageable swell for everyone from beginners to experienced swimmers and paddlers.
Water temperatures are cooling down nicely as we head deeper into fall. Brooklyn and Queens beaches are sitting around the lower seventies, while down in southern Nassau it's also lower seventies. Western Suffolk near Gilgo Beach is right around seventy degrees, and if you're heading all the way out to the eastern beaches near Smith Point and Ditch Plains, expect upper sixties water temps. You might want to grab a wetsuit if you're planning an extended session out east.

Winds are light and cooperative today. We're looking at south winds around five miles per hour in Brooklyn, southeast in the morning becoming south in the afternoon for the Queens and Nassau zones. Western Suffolk starts east before swinging southwest, and the same pattern holds out in the Hamptons.
