The Chattanooga Campaign With (Dave Powell )
In this episode of American Civil War & UK History, Podcast Daz was joined by historian and author Dave Powell to discuss the Chattanooga Campaign.
The Chattanooga Campaign, fought in October–November 1863, was a major turning point in the Civil War. After the Union defeat at Chickamauga, Confederate forces under Gen. Braxton Bragg besieged Chattanooga from the surrounding heights. Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant arrived to take command of Union forces in the West, bringing crucial reinforcements and replacing William S. Rosecrans with Maj. Gen. George Henry Thomas. The campaign culminated in the dramatic Union victories at Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge, lifting the siege and opening the gateway to the Deep South.
