New York Beach Surf Forecast Sunday: 2 Foot Waves, Sunny Skies, Mid 70s Temperatures

Published 3 weeks, 6 days ago
Description
Good morning, this is your Sunday surf forecast for the New York beaches. We're looking at a beautiful day ahead with mostly pleasant conditions across all the zones from Brooklyn out to the East End of Long Island.

Let's start with what's consistent across the board. Surf heights are running around two feet everywhere today, so if you're heading out, don't expect any epic swells. The water temperature ranges from the upper 60s out east to the lower 70s closer to the city, so you might want a light wetsuit depending on where you're going. The good news is there's no thunderstorm potential anywhere, so you won't have to worry about lightning ruining your session.

Rip current risk is low across all zones, though as always, be aware that life-threatening rips can form around groins, jetties, reefs, and piers even on low risk days. If you do get caught in a rip, remember to stay calm, float, and swim parallel to the shore rather than fighting directly against the current.

Now let's talk about the weather. We're looking at increasing sunshine throughout the day as we move toward afternoon. Brooklyn will be mostly cloudy until nine in the morning, then sunny with highs in the upper 70s. Down in Southern Queens at Rockaway and Jacob Riis Park, expect partly sunny conditions until noon, then clearing to sunny skies with highs in the mid-70s. Over in Southern Nassau, you'll see partly sunny skies until one o'clock before turning sunny, also with mid-70s.

Out in Southwestern Suffolk near Gilgo and Robert Moses, mostly cloudy conditions clear by noon, and it'll be sunny with mid-70s. Finally, out in Southeastern Suffolk at spots like Smith Point and Ditch Plains, mostly cloudy skies stick around until one in the afternoon before turning sunny, with highs again in the mid-70s.

The UV index is moderate everywhere, so grab some sunscreen before heading to the beach. Winds will be light, ranging from southeast to south at around five miles per hour, with shifts toward the southwest in the afternoon as we move across the zones from west to east.

High tides are occurring around noon to twelve-thirty depending on your location. Sunrise is between six-forty-one and six-forty-eight, while sunset is between six-thirty-seven and six forty-five, giving you a great window to catch some light throughout the day.

Before we wrap up, a special note that this is the final forecast of the year, so make the most of it. Remember to always swim near a lifeguard with a flotation device, never alone, and never at night. Have a great day at the beach.
