The Final Cup on WMOV (3/27/26) Part 1 Featuring Makenzie New Walker, Sassa Wilkes, Brooklyn Morrison and Isaac Butcher

Published 3 weeks, 4 days ago
Description
Dave Miller of WMOV recently accompanied a group of students from Ripley High School on a trip to the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum in Matewan, WV, to learn about the mine wars, the labor movement and to see primary sources for themselves, as well as take part in a public art project that will be on display later this year in Huntington.

Dave shares an interview with Makenzie New Walker, the executive director of the museum, getting an overview of the museum and its mission. Then Dave talks with Huntington-based artist Sassa Wilkes, who is putting together a series of murals in coordination with the museum about Mine Wars heroes, such as Sarah 'Ma' Blizzard and Sid Hatfield.

Finally, Dave gets thoughts from Ripley High students Brooklyn Morrison and Isaac Butcher about their experience visiting the museum and taking part in the art project.
