Super-K flu strain drives surge in cases
Published 3 weeks, 6 days ago
Description
Flu cases across Australia have surged more than 160 percent in four weeks, jumping from 8,000 to over 23,000 reported cases between February and March. Deaths related to flu in January 2025 reached 63, almost double the 35 recorded in January 2024. A highly contagious strain known as Super-K, which originated in America, is driving the spike, with medical experts concerned about declining vaccination rates leaving more Australians vulnerable this winter.
