Scotlands Isle of Mull Theatre Launches UN Sustainable Development Goals Arts Program
A groundbreaking three-year arts initiative is set to launch on Scotlands Isle of Mull, focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The program, which begins in 2026, will use theater, music, visual art, and community events to address global challenges such as sustainability, climate change, and social issues. Each year will highlight one global goal, starting with Life on Land.
The inaugural exhibit, The Ground Shakes by artist Calum Wallis, explores Scotlands fault lines through drawings, prints, and films. Later in the year, Invasive Species will be an outdoor audio walk that blends sound, stories, and sculpture to highlight human impacts on nature.
The program will also feature performances that connect to other goals, such as Stand and Deliver, which recreates a 1981 factory sit-in by women fighting for rights, and Its Not Where You Start, which tells the story of Scott Kyles journey from foster care to Hollywood. Family shows like A Home for Hamish will use dance and sign language to teach creativity.
Music and comedy will also play a role, with folk duos evoking island quarries, songs on ecology, and a Cuban guitar showcase. Pride events will hit Tobermory beach in June, and partnerships with groups like the Royal Scottish Academy will bring artist exchanges and film seasons.
From their Atlantic-edge location, organizers hope to spark fresh conversations about our shared future through culture that honors the lands stories and beauty.
