Myeloma Australia pushes for cure funding in Canberra
Published 4 weeks ago
Description
Myeloma Australia has presented a delegation to Canberra seeking government funding to find a cure for the incurable blood cancer. Health Minister Mark Butler announced that Elrexfio, a revolutionary medicine, will be added to the PBS next month for advanced myeloma patients, saving approximately 300 patients $5,000 per script. The organisation released a report showing the disease costs Australia $7.1 billion annually in health expenses and lost productivity, and is requesting $132 million over five years for research and treatment, which they claim would save $1.5 billion over the same period.
