We discuss the proposal now being brought to Congress, The Working Americans Tax Cut Act," which is legislation that would cut income taxes for working people. One part of it proposes to exempt the first $46,000 from any tax, since this is the basic cost of living for a single person with no children. other parts of this proposed change to the tax code would raise some income taxes for persons whose income is above $1M. Overall, for the government, this would be revenue neutral. This proposal has support from the AFLCIO, AFT, and other unions.
